Peace in Stressful Times – S2E19

Gone is life as the world knew it

When New Year’s Day 2020 came in, the resolutions began and planners made their plans for the year. Some people already had dates in 2020 scheduled well before 2019 came to an end. Most people in America had no idea that in March 2020 everything would come to a screeching halt. Because COVID-19 changed life as the world knew it. So, with all that is happening daily, there are those who are searching for peace in stressful times.

Sadly, many people have lost their lives and others have lost loved ones to the coronavirus. In May of 2020, The Harvard Gazette published the article, The lesson is to never forget, by Liz Mineo. And in it, Olga Jonas, a senior fellow at the Harvard Global Health Institute, compares COVID-19 to the deadly influenza pandemic of 1918.

A Safe Place to Lay Your Heart – S2E18

One can’t even begin to discuss a safe place to lay your heart without first discussing trust. Trust plays an essential role in our decision making. According to Dictionary.com trust means to rely on the integrity of a person or thing. For instance, have you ever given anyone the benefit of the doubt? Of course, we all have. And did you later regret it? Yep, been there too.

Well, according to Dr. Phil, we owe no one the benefit of the doubt. He said humans are the only species to sense danger and run headfirst into it. That includes various aspects of life. But, all other species trust their instincts and run in the opposite direction of danger. In other words, as humans, some of us trust too easily when we must be mindful in whom we place our trust at all times.

Eternity Awaits – S2E17

Have you ever thought about where you will spend eternity? Of course, there are those who do not believe there is life after death. They deny the concept of one going to either heaven or hell at the moment of death. And you know what—that’s their right to do so. But to those of you who are the least bit curious, this podcast episode is for you because—eternity awaits.

Eternal life

Generally speaking, there are three main religions that believe in eternal life. And those religions are Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. When looking at it from a Christian perspective, the Holy Bible is very clear about eternal life. John 17:3 Modern English Version says, “This is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.”

And John 3:16 Modern English Version says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.”

But Who Do You Say I AM? — S2E16

To begin with, I pose this question. Have you ever wondered what people say about you when you’re not around? Generally speaking, most people have heard the saying, “I wish I could have been a fly on the wall.” Of course, only long enough to see and hear how people feel about you. So, who do people say you are? Are their perceptions of you formed from a personal relationship with you? Or are they formed based on the opinions of others whether true or false?

The Heart of Man—Racism in America – S2E15

In general, most people agree that America has come a long way since the Civil Rights Movement. We’ve had a black president for goodness sakes. For that reason, many of our white brothers and sisters don’t think racism exists anymore. But black people face some form of racism on a daily basis. Now, you may wonder, what does the ‘heart of man’ have to do with racism in America? Well, the ‘heart of man,’ correlates with one’s beliefs about other ethnicities and cultures. But first, let’s look at the definition of racism so that we are all on the same page.

Equal Promises of God – S2E14

Generally speaking, a promise is a promise is a promise. Most people agree with that statement. Merriam-Webster defines the word promise as follows. A promise is a declaration that one will do or refrain from doing something specified. It is also legally binding. Now, The Word of God as written in the Holy Bible is filled with promises from God. The question for some people is are those promises relevant today? Well, the answer to that question is yes. And not only that, but there are equal promises of God made readily available to those who would but receive.

In uncertain times, anxiety can cause some people to lose peace of mind. That’s why finding peace in uncertain times is so important. For instance, in January 2020 we wouldn’t have expected that by March our way of life would change.

Surrendered to the Process—Doing Our Part – S2E12

In the wake of COVID-19, the government has set forth certain stipulations. And social distancing guidelines play a vital part in preventing the spread of the virus. Hence our topic, Surrendered to the Process—Doing Our Part.

A collage with five photos. 1) a mask and hand sanitizer on a table 2) two women separated by a window; one wear a mask 3) A girl doing online schooling 4) A cleaning person wearing white protective gear spraying disinfectant 5) Someone disinfecting a laptop all representing being surrendered to the process--doing our part.

Of course, when some people hear the word surrender, they view it as a negative action. No doubt in some cases that may well be true. But in other circumstances when one is surrendered to the process it could well save his/her life. Such as, in the case of COVID-19.

Fear–how can one emotion grip people in such a way that it paralyzes certain areas of their lives? Well, to answer that question we must first look at fear for what it is.
