Wisdom Series Pt.3
THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT–Taking God’s Armor with You; but what does that even mean? First, what is the Sword of the Spirit? Second, what is God’s Armor? And furthermore, why do we need them? Well, I am so happy you care to learn or further understand the answers to those questions.
Because Proverbs 4:7 New King James Version says, “Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.” So, let’s do just that–get an understanding of the Sword of the Spirit and the Armor of God.
Spiritual attacks—mental and physical
Now before moving forward, think back to a time when you felt mentally attacked. For example, anyone who knows you views you as a happy person that always has it together. But secretly it is all you can do to make it through each day. Because negative thoughts and emotions bombard your mind. Or are you someone who is dealing with health issues? Either way, it is an attack.
Believe it or not there is a spiritual element behind these attacks. Ephesians 6:10-12 New Living Translation says,
“10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.
12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”
And this is why the Sword of the Spirit and the Armor of God are so important.
The whole Armor of God
For clarification, let’s allow the Holy Bible to explain exactly what the Armor of God is. Ephesians 6:13-17 New Living Translation says, “13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.
15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. 16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
In other words, the whole Armor of God is peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God. Know this, no matter the attack, the answer is in the Holy Bible. Simply stated, it is not only a manual for life but it is the most powerful weapon against spiritual attacks. Again, it is the Sword of the Spirit. Hence, this episode title THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT–Taking God’s Armor with You.
